Author Interview with Terry Marchion

Author of The Adventures of Tremain and Christopher Series

I’m very pleased to be interviewing Terry Marchion today.

I’ve read all three of his books, and I’m very pleased to hear he’s writing the next one! I’ve realised that we pretty much published our first book at the same time, and we’re both Star Trek and Star Wars fans!

Below are the links to my reviews of Book 2 and 3.

And on to the interview!
Author Questions –

When did you first start writing?
I’ve always been writing – when I was a kid I would write my own comic book stories and had a file full of stories I wanted to write or had started writing . . . not much ever got finished in those days and most of the writing was horrendous, but that’s how you start . . . practice, practice, practice!  My very first short-story that I actually submitted to Asimov’s magazine (It was rejected, go figure) became a chapter in my first book:  The Missing Yesterdays.

Tell us about your book(s) and the genres you write in.
I write YA Science Fiction Adventures – so far.  I self-published my first book in April 2016 and have been learning about this industry ever since.  To say I’ve learned a ton is an understatement!!
Who’s your favourite character (or least favourite) and why?
My favorite character to write has to be Tremain . . . why?  Because he’s a smart-alec, but he’s a genius, so can get himself out of a jam – usually he’s put himself in there somehow . . .

How much time do you spend writing?
Not enough!  I have a day job that is pretty time-consuming, so all my writing up to this point has been done on the weekends when I can carve out some time.  I’m working on writing a few days a week too, but that hasn’t happened yet.

Where is your favourite place to write?
Sitting at my dining room table – with some music playing that hopefully, helps me find the right mood for what I’m writing . . .
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve had to research?
Thank goodness I write YA stuff – and science-y stuff too – so probably the wildest thing I’ve looked into was how to build a magnet from scratch . . . it’s pretty easy, if you have the materials . . . LOL

Who’s your favourite author and/or favourite books.
I have so many . . . I’m a science geek, Michio Kaku and Neil DeGrasse Tyson are high on my list – I loved The Martian, so right now I’m looking forward to Artemis by Andy Weir to come out (soon) – I like Steven Saylor, who writes mysteries set in ancient Rome, Scott Sigler, who writes a lot of fun stuff  . . . and I’m very much getting into my fellow indie authors, many of whom are brilliant.  I love their imaginations . . .

What are you working on now?
At this moment, I have Book 4 in my series in Scrivener.  The outline is (almost) finished, and I have the first couple of chapters started  . . . not sure when it’s going to be done, but I’ll keep you posted.

When you’re not writing, what do you get up to?
Well, I do have a day job – so you can usually find me chained to my desk there. LOL – when I’m not working, I spend time with my family, I read as much as I can and keep trying to feed my brain.

Any fun facts about yourself that you’d like to share?
I’m a Star Trek AND Star Wars fan – so yes, you can be both.  I’m also a James Bond fan, and, you may be surprised, I do like a good period movie every now and then.  I’m eclectic, go figure.

Where can readers go to find out more about you and your writing?
My website, www.terrymarchion.com, should have the latest and greatest news when it comes available . . . and when I update it . . . LOL . . . I have a blog on the site too, which is in need of s’more posts, so guess what I’m going to be doing soon . . .
I’m easy to find on Facebook too – www.facebook.com/terrymarchionauthor — come chat with me!

Thanks for your time Terry!
